STANDARDS OF THE PROFESSIONAL MASTER’S GRADUATE PROGRAM IN ZOOTECHNY

 

CHAPTER I

GENERAL ORGANIZATION

 

Art. 1  The Professional Master in Zootechnics aims to offer professionals in the Zootechnics area a training directed mainly to the job market, giving an opportunity to recycle knowledge to professionals linked to the Brazilian productive sector, in a very dynamic way. In addition, the Professional Master’s Program also aims to seek a strong partnership with the national productive sector, which should result in a closer relationship between scientific knowledge and the needs of the productive sector, which should result in improvement in the well-being of Brazilian society through faster diffusion of the technologies generated.

Sole paragraph – The Postgraduate Program of the Professional Master in Zootechnics (PPGMPZ), will offer the Postgraduate Course in Animal Production, in two major areas of concentration: 1) Production and Nutrition of Ruminants and 2) Production and Nutrition of Monogastric, with the objective of meeting the demand for professionals directly linked to the business activity of the agro-industrial sector.

Art. 2  The organization and functioning of the PPGMPZ obey the rules of the UFV Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Regiment and the additional rules of this Regiment.

CHAPTER II

COORDINATION OF PPGMPZ

Art. 3  The didactic-scientific Coordination of Graduate Program will be exercised by a Coordinating Commission made up of:

I – 1 (one) coordinator, as its president, elected by the Collegiate of Program Advisers and appointed by the Rector, upon referral by the head of the Department of Zootechnics;

II – 3 (three) teachers, elected by Graduate Program’s Advisory Board; and

III – 1 (one) representative of Graduate Program’s students, elected by their peers, with the respective alternate.

  • 1 – In order to comply with the provisions of item I, the Collegiate of Advisors of the PPGMPZ will be considered all professors accredited to guide graduate students with the PPGMPZ.
  • 2 – The coordinator and professors who are members of the Coordinating Committee will serve for a term of 4 (four) years, with the possibility of reappointment.
  • 3rd – The student representative will exercise a mandate of 1 (one) year, renewal not being allowed.

CHAPTER III

FROM ADMISSION TO PPGMPZ AND INITIAL REGISTRATION

Art. 4  The admission to PPGPMZ is done through a selection process based on the criteria established by the Coordinating Committee and documents required for registration, disclosed in the Selection Notice.

  • 1st – The candidate for PPGPMZ must have the title of Zootechnician or course with a full curriculum in which he has taken disciplines related to the Zootechnics course.
  • 2nd – The admission of the foreign student will be made in accordance with the rules of UFV’s current international agreements. The other foreign Graduate students, not included in the referred agreements not participating in the Student-Graduate Program Program, will be subject to the same rules required for Brazilian Graduate students.
  • 3rd – The selection process will be defined by the PPGPMZ Coordinating Committee, respecting the rules in force at UFV, and may be in a continuous process. In this model, the selection of the candidate is conditioned to the opening of the selection process by the Coordinating Commission, which can be carried out at any time, according to the PPGPMZ demand.
  • 4th – The research activities carried out in the Professional Master’s Program may count on financial support from agreements with companies from the private sector or government agencies, managed by Funarbe, in compliance with CONSU resolution 04/2000.

Art. 5  The selection process of candidates will be carried out by the Coordinating Committee or by the Selection Committee designated by it.

Art. 6  The procedures and documents required for the initial registration of the candidate approved in the selection process will follow what is determined by the Stricto Sensu Graduate Regulations of UFV within the deadlines set out in the UFV School Calendar.

CHAPTER IV

DIDACTIC REGIME

Art. 7  To obtain the title of Master, in addition to other requirements, the student must attend a minimum number of 28 (twenty-eight) credits in disciplines.

Art. 8  Regular education will be organized in the form of disciplines, given in lectures, seminars, directed studies, practical classes or other didactic methods.

  • single – The graduate courses will be classified in level with code 800, according to the content and focus of the respective analytical program.

Art 9 The basic unit for assessing the intensity and duration of the graduate courses is the credit, equivalent to 1 (one) credit to 15 (fifteen) hours of lecture.

  • 1st – The Professional Master’s student must complete his credits until the end of the 3rd academic period of his admission to PPGMPZ, with an accumulated income equal to or greater than 75.0.

Art. 10  The course will be in person and the graduate courses will be taught in a condensed form from Monday to Saturday, every sixty days, on average, totaling a minimum of 45 hours in the classroom; being allowed that a maximum of 15 hours is obtained with the elaboration of a literature review and, or, directed study. Thus, to complete the credits, Graduate students must remain in Viçosa for seven weeks.

Art. 11  The curriculum of Graduate Program will consist of graduate courses for the two areas of concentration of the PPGMZPZ.

  • unique – The professional Master’s student will be allowed to replace one of the graduate courses in each concentration area with ZOO 896 – Special Problems, whose analytical program must be approved by the PPGMPZ Coordinating Committee.

Art. 12  Concept or grade will be given in each discipline after tests, seminars, fieldwork, interviews, tests and work required by the competent teacher. The concepts will follow the symbology described in the table below:

  • 1º – The final grade in the discipline will be represented by a whole number, understood

between 0 (zero) and 100 (one hundred), except those that will have an S (Satisfactory) or N (No)

Satisfactory).

  • 2nd – For the calculation of the final grade, the value with the first decimal place equal or higher

to 5 (five) will be rounded up to the next whole number.

  • 3rd – The student who, having met the frequency requirements, obtains a grade equal to or higher than 60 (sixty) or S (Satisfactory) concept will be approved in the discipline.
  • 4th – Provisional concept I (Incomplete) will be attributed to the student who interrupts, for

reason of force majeure, proven before the professor of the discipline, part of the work

that, in the evaluations carried out, has obtained sufficient proportional use for approval. If the assessments are not completed or the grade has not been sent to the School Register within the period set in the School Calendar, the sum of the grades of the assessments carried out in the period will be posted.

  • 5th – The J concept represents the effective cancellation of registration in the discipline.
  • 6th – The K concept represents the effective locking of registration.
  • 7th – The W concept represents the special departure.

Art. 13  The student who fails a course, with the exception of the Special Problems and Special Topics disciplines, must repeat it, and will be awarded, as a final result, the last grade obtained.

Art. 14  A title will only be granted to a student who, having fulfilled the other requirements, obtains approval in all graduate courses listed in his / her academic record, with the exception of the Special Problems and Special Topics graduate courses, and presents an Income Ratio equal to or greater than 75 , 0 (seventy-five integers).

Art. 15  Graduate students who fail to reach a frequency of at least 75% (seventy-five percent) in Graduate Program med didactic activities will be disapproved for all the purposes provided for in this Regulation .

Art. 16  The student who falls into one or more of the situations specified below will be disconnected from Graduate Program, except in cases where the student enrolls only in graduate courses that are not considered in the calculation of the Income Ratio:

I – obtain a Coefficient of Income (CR), in the first semester, less than 65.0

(sixty-five integers);

II – obtain an accumulated CR of less than 75.0 (seventy-five integers), as of the second academic semester;

III – not pay the necessary credits within the period established in the Internal Regulations

PPGMPZ;

IV – fail two (2) times in the same discipline;

V – obtain two N (Non-Satisfactory) concepts, consecutive or not, in Research;

VI – not completing any of Graduate Program requirements within the established period.

CHAPTER V

STUDENT GUIDANCE

Art. 17 The didactic-pedagogical orientation of the student will be exercised by an advisor appointed by the Coordinating Committee, observing the provisions of the Internal Rules of the PPGMPZ.

  • 1 – The graduate student may request the PPGMPZ Coordination to change

guidance, by reasoned justification and indication of a new Advisor.

  • 2nd – The Advisor may waive the student’s orientation, with the presentation of

detailed justification, which must be approved by the PPGMPZ Coordination.

  • 3rd – In the case of conflicts of interest between the Oriented and the Advisor, the

Coordinating Committee the appointment of a new Advisor.

Art. 18  The research to prepare the course conclusion work will be supervised individually by the Advisor or, optionally, by an Advisor Committee formed by Advisor and Co-supervisor (s)

Art. 19  The Advisor’s specific duties are:

I – define, together with the student, the study plan;

II – propose the name (s) of the co-supervisor (s), when applicable;

III – guide the research, object of the course conclusion work;

IV – approve requests for substitution, cancellation and enrollment in disciplines and for enrollment termination;

V – provide assistance to the student in relation to academic processes and standards in

force; and

VI – preside over the Defense Banking of the course conclusion work.

CHAPTER VI

STUDY PLAN

Art. 20  The Study Plan will necessarily list the disciplines, as well as the line of research for the dissertation.

Art. 21  The Study Plan, approved by the Advisor and the student, will be submitted to the PPGPMZ Coordinator and the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, until the end of the first academic period attended by the student at the University.

  • unique – The lack of an approved Study Plan prevents the student from enrolling in the second term.

CHAPTER VII

RESEARCH PROJECT

Art. 22  Every graduate student must prepare, necessarily, a research project for the development of their work of conclusion of course.

Art. 23  The research project must be prepared under the supervision of the Advisor or the Guiding Committee and registered with the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies.

Art. 24  The research projects must be registered with the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies until the last day of launching concepts related to the third academic semester, foreseen in the School Calendar.

  • 1st – All Graduate students applying for the Magister Scientiae titles must enroll in the Research discipline, until the third semester.
  • 2 – Failure to meet the deadlines established in the caput of this article will imply a N in Research concept.

CHAPTER VIII

COURSE COMPLETION WORK

Art. 25 Every graduate student who is a candidate for the title of Magister Scientiae must prepare and defend a course conclusion work and be approved therein.

  • 1º – The course conclusion work, under the supervision of the Advisor or the Guiding Committee, must be original and represent a real contribution to technological knowledge on the subject.
  • 2nd – The final course work may be presented in different formats, such as dissertation, patent, intellectual property records; development of products, processes and techniques; software, prototypes for the development or production of instruments, equipment and kits, without prejudice to other formats, according to the nature of the area and the purpose of the course, in accordance with Article 7, item VIII, § 3 of Normative Ordinance N 17, of December 28, 2009, from CAPES, which deals with the Professional Master’s.
  • 3rd – The form, language and content of the course conclusion work will be of the

responsibility of the candidate, the Steering Committee and the Examining Board.

  • 4th – The results of the PPGMPZ Master’s works will be subject to the current laws and UFV rules regarding intellectual property.
  • 5th – Seminar – it will be mandatory to present the Course Conclusion Paper, in a seminar open to the public

Art. 26  The course conclusion work will be defended before a board formed by holders of the title of Doctor, under the chairmanship of the Advisor.

  • 1st – The board will be appointed with at least 3 (three) full members and 2 (two) alternates.
  • 2nd – The board proposed by the Advisor or by the Advisor Committee and appointed by the

Program Coordinator, will be approved by the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, at least 10 (ten) days before the defense.

  • 3rd – Of the full members of the final course work bank, at least 1 (one) member must be external to the PPGMPZ and not belong to the student’s Guidance Committee.
  • 4th – The candidate who obtains a unanimous indication of the members of the Bank will be approved.
  • 5 – The candidate who does not obtain approval may submit himself to another defense, to

criteria of the Examining Board, respecting the maximum period established in this Regulation to conclude the course.

  • 6th – The result of the defense must be communicated to the Pro-Rectory for Research and

Graduation, in its own form, up to 10 (ten) days after its completion.

  • 7 – In the event of the Supervisor’s impediment, Graduate Program Coordinating Committee

appoint, with the prior consent of that, a substitute to preside over the bank.

Art. 27  Only the student who has:

I – fulfilled all the requirements established in the UFV Stricto Sensu Graduate Regulations and in this Program’s Internal Regulations;

II – the research project duly approved and registered with the Pro-Rectory of

Research and Graduate Studies;

III – completed all the disciplines required in his study plan, and be enrolled

only in the subject (s) Research and present a Coefficient of Income equal to or greater than 75.0 (seventy-five integers);

IV – give the supervisor the original data obtained during the execution of your project

search, with annotations and editable files:

  1. a) The student must deliver to the Coordinating Committee a signed declaration

by the Advisor who attests to the fulfillment of this requirement.

  • sole – At the end of the regular academic period, the student who still has as his remaining activity the defense of his course conclusion work must enroll in the Research discipline, on the next enrollment renewal date established in the UFV School Calendar.

Art. 28  The final version of the course conclusion work, prepared and approved according to the current rules, and duly signed by the members of the Examining Board, must be delivered to the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, within 3 ( three) months after the defense date.

  • 1º – For the delivery of the course conclusion work after the deadline provided for in the caput of this article, the student will be charged a monthly fine based on a percentage of the value of the Master’s scholarship, as defined in Resolution of the University Council (CONSU).
  • 2 – In addition to the delivery of the printed version in the form and within the deadline established in the caput of this article, the candidate must also submit to the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies the final version of his / her course completion work in electronic medium, identical to printed version.

CHAPTER IX

ACCREDITATION OF GUIDELINES

Art. 29  The PPGPMZ Advisors will have their names approved by Graduate Program Coordinating Committee.

Art. 30  To be accredited as a PPGMPZ Advisor, the candidate for advisor must meet the following criteria:

I – Publish three or more scientific articles in journals with Qualis A1 to B5, in the quadrennium that precedes the CAPES evaluation.

  • sole – Technical and extension publications generated in accordance with the Course Conclusion Paper may replace the scientific article

II – Teach classes for undergraduate and graduate students.

  • 1º – For teachers and technicians from other Institutions, only the candidate’s prior experience in the area of ​​his / her performance and his / her contribution to the PPGMPZ may be considered
  • 2nd – Teachers not accredited with PPGMPZ will not be able to teach classes.

Art. 31  The Coordinating Committee of PPGPMZ, will not re-register the advisor who does not meet the specified in Art. 30.

  • single – The re-accreditation will be quadrennial, always at the beginning of the quadrennium evaluated by CAPES.

CHAPTER X

Art. 32  The cases omitted in the present Regulation will be resolved by the Coordinating Committee and, when necessary, analyzed by the competent bodies of UFV.

Art. 33  The present Rules of Procedure may be changed upon approval by, at least, 50% plus one, of the members of the PPGMPZ Board.

Art. 34 The present Regulation will come into force on the date of its publication.
